Definitions
Anointing Oil: Singular oil or blend utilized in
sacred ritual to dress candles or other ritual trappings, or the body of the
practitioner.
Aromatherapy: The therapeutic use of scent through
essential oils (oils derived from organic plants/ herbs/flowers) to aid in
healing body, mind and spirit.
Candle Magick: Utilizing candles as representing
units of influence to accomplish a given exercise of will or intent.
Carrier Oils: Oils of low or no scent used to
dilute more pungently aromatic oils or blends.
Chakras: Spiritual/energy centers in the body as
practiced in Tantra and other Eastern philosophies.
Deosil:
In Scottish folklore,
Sunwise or Sunward was considered the “prosperous course”,
turning from east to west in the direction of the
sun. In
Witchcraft, this is the ritual act of moving around circle in a "clock-wise"
direction.
Elemental Association: Each essential aroma may be
recognized as being under the influence of the four cardinal energies of the
universe - Earth, Air, Fire and Water.
Essential Oil: The aromatic oil that exists
naturally and can be extracted from various plants and flowers.
Homeopathy: A system of treatment utilizing minute
doses of substances that would, in a healthy subject, create the symptoms of
the ailment being treated.
Incense:
A mixture of herbs, plants, and/or essential oils in a flower or wood base
that, when burned, is aromatic. Incense has been used for centuries in
religious and magickal rites.
Karma:
The word "karma" originates from Hinduism and Buddhism. An action seen
as bringing upon oneself inevitable results, good or bad, either in this
life or in a reincarnation.
Medicine
Pouch/Mojo bag: a small draw-string bag filled with sacred stones,
crystals and/or herbs and spells. Typically worn around the neck or
carried somewhere on the person. Medicine/Mojo bags have been made for
"Luck", "Healing", "Fertility" and for various metaphysical reasons.
Many times (depending on what culture) given as a gift and is considered
very sacred .
Magick:
The use of natural energies within ourselves and the world around us to
effect a physical change in a condition or life situation. Spelled
with a "k" to differentiate it from stage magic.
New Age:
A term used for the revival, revitalization and augmentation of the old arts
and sciences tied with natural healing, magick and self-awareness.
Universal
Law: This is a broad term for the operative laws governing
karma, energy following thought, energy input/output, what goes around comes
around, what you sow so shall you reap, the law of attraction, and so
forth. In a nutshell, whatever you put "out there" will come back to you
multiplied in accordance with the attitude you put it out there with.
Wiccan Rede:
"Do what you will except harm ye none." Whatever you put "out there" comes
back to you three-fold.
Widdershins:
In Witchcraft, this is the ritual act of moving around circle in a
"counter clock-wise" direction. It is used to open a ritual
circle when a ritual has been completed. Some believe the sole use of
the direction "widdershins" produces negative magick or energy.
